Hi, my fellow readers. This week's book is "A Duel Withe The Vampire Lord" by Elisa Kova. The third book in the "Married to Magic" - series. It

This book started really good. I was excited to grab the book and start reading it. The setting of the book is very medieval, it has a small village in the mountains/woods vibes, a dark vampire castle. A much darker aesthetic, that I really enjoyed and got me hooked.

Our MC (Floriane) is a forge maiden, who's learning to forge from her mother, the town's blacksmith. She is strong willing and has quite a lot of skills.. Her brother is one of the hunter's Hamlet. He protects his village from the vampires that attacks the village every full and blood moon. Ruvan is the Vampire lord, or how the Hunter's called him "a vampire monster". However, Florianne finds out that Ruvan is not the monster that everyone describes, and she starts seeing him in a different light. From enemies to lovers, their romance is fun and all, but not that thrilling enough to sit on the edge of your chair. I feel like it was a slow burn, but without the burn in it. The chemistry started good, but it went a bit duller (if I compare this book to the previous ones). The side characters were perfect for this book (each got a little bit of depthness that explained why they are who they are).

The world-building is really amazing. I love the magic system and the history behind the wars between Hunter's Hamplet and the vampires. The aesthetic is darker but really well written. Kove did a great job to describe this world and describe the skills that Florianne used for forging.

While the book has some strong points, such as the aesthetic of the world-building, descriptions of the magic system and history. The slow pacing got very slow near the ending, which took me a longer time to finish this book. It has +500 pages, while it could be perfectly written in +300 pages. The chemistry started off fun and exciting, but I think it went a bit dull because the pace became slower. I recommend this book for fantasy readers who enjoy rich historical settings with an interesting magic system. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book, but I missed a little bit more of a -burning romance-. My conlusion: I enjoy reading Kova's books, but this was not the book that I hoped for. However, I'm excited to start the next book in this series "A duet with the siren duke".
