Hii, my fellow readers. This week's book is 'Twisted Games' by Ana Huang. The second book in the Twisted series, but you can read it as a standalone. Twisted love is a slow-burn, contemporary, royal bodyguard romance. Warning: This book contains a possessive alpha hero, explicit sexual content, and profanity.
In this forbidden romance, Bodyguard X princess you'll read between the two POVs of Bridget and Rhys. While our princess is a sunny character with a lot of pressure on her head, she enjoys the simple things in life. Meanwhile, our bodyguard, thinking the worst of Bridget as a spoiled child, Rhys is our grumpy - over- protecting- alpha - guy, who likes to boss Bridget around. They started off on bad terms until they get to know each other, and certain things start growing between them. I love the development of the romance between these two characters.
Other characters like Ava and Alex (from twisted love), also appear in this book. Which I really enjoy, because you can read each book like a series OR you can read each book as a standalone (How fun is that?) Anyway, there are more characters to discover. But more to investigate their trust.
The world-building is contemporary. You get an idea of what it all looks like. Yet, the book is more focused on the romance between the characters. There is no map in this book, which isn't needed.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I like the tropes that this book has: Grumpy x sunshine, Bodyguard x Princess, Forbidden love, Age gap, Possessive love interest, etc. I really enjoy the writing style of Ana and how she develops a romance between the love interests. This was such a fun read. It not only contains romance but sexual content (which was good). There were some 'plot twists' and some characters that I didn't expect to turn out how they did. But it is kind of predictable (which I don't really mind in books like these). Overall, I really enjoyed reading this steamy book. And I'm curious to read the next books in this series.
Synopsis:
She can never be his... but he's taking her anyway.
Stoic, broody, and arrogant, elite bodyguard Rhys Larsen has two rules:
1) Protect his clients at all costs.
2) Do not become emotionally involved. Ever.
He has never once been tempted to break those rules... Until her.
Bridget Von Ascheberg. A princess with a stubborn streak that matches his own and a hidden fire that reduces his rules to ash. SHe's nothing he expected and everything he never knew he needed.
Day by day, inch by inch, she breaks down his defenses until he's faced with a truth he can no longer deny. He swore an oath to protect her, but all he wants is to ruin her. Take her.
Because she's his.
His princess.
His forbidden fruit.
His every depraved fantasy.
Regal, strong-willed, and bound by the chains of duty. Princess Bridget dreams of the freedom to live and love as she chooses.
But when her brother abdicates, she's suddenly faced with the prospect of a loveless, politically expedient marriage and a throne she never wanted.
And as she navigates the intricacies - and treacheries - of her new role, she must also hide her desire for a man she can't have.
Her bodyguard.
Her protector.
Her ultimate ruin.
Unexpected and forbidden, theirs is a love that could destroy a kingdom... and doom them both.
Love, ❤
DarkBlue.
