The Innocent man is the first nonfiction/true crime book, John Grisham wrote/published. He is best known for his popular legal thrillers. I started to read John Grisham-books thanks to my dad. He is a really big fan of his books and he has every book of him. To be honest, I like reading his books as well, especially the Theodore Boone books. They are fun and exciting to read. I wanted to talk about this book because I feel like it needs to be talked about. This nonfiction book is sadly the world we live on, rape, murder, wrongly convictions.. I do think it happens a lot, and it's important that we remind ourselfs that it can happen to everybody who is in the wrong place/time. I hear, read and see a lot of wrongly convicted stories in America. I don't know how it is here in Belgium, but I'm sure it happens here as well. The Innocent man will shock you about the justice system in America, because it definitely shocked me.

Anyway, I know that America has this project for these kind of cases. It's called the 'Innocence Project', and I think it's amazing what they to. They are Advocates for the innocent. If you wanna know more about this project or you know somebody who is wrongly convicted in America, check their site: Innocence Project - Help us put an end to wrongful convictions!

Storyline:
John Grisham's first work of nonfiction, an exploration of small town justice gone terribly awry, is his most extraordinary legal thriller yet.
In the major league draft of 1971, the first player chosen from the State of Oklahoma was Ron Williamson. When he signed the Oakland A's, he said goodbye to his hometown of Ada and left to persue his dreams of big league glory.
Six years later he was back, his dreams broken by a bad arm and bad habits- drinking, drugs, and women. He began to show signs of mental illness. Unable to keep a job, he moved in with his mother and slept twenty hours a day on her sofa.
In 1982, a 21-year-old cocktail waitress in Ada named Debra Sue Carter was raped and murdered, and for five years the police could not solve the crime. For reasons that were never clear, they suspected Ron Williamson and his friend Dennis Fritz. The two were finally arrested in 1987 and charged with capital murder.
With no physical evidence, the prosecution's case was built on junk science and the testimony of jailhouse snitches and convicts. Dennis Fritz was found guilty and given a life sentence. Ron Williamson was sent to death row.
If you believe that in America you are innoncent until proven guilty, this book will shock you. If you believe in the death penalty, this book will disturb you. If you believe the criminal justice systam is fair, this book will infuriate you.

John Grisham wrote a book about it, and Netflix made a documentary about it. Be sure to take a look at the book and documentary, it is certainly worth it.
